13 Daily Rituals to Help You Find Balance

From the point of view of Yoga Philosophy, everyone and everything in our universe is made up of three ever-changing qualities. These qualities of nature, or ‘Gunas’ are:

Tamas, the power of solidity, constancy and stability.

Rajas, the power of change, action and energy.

Sattva, the power of peace, harmony and intelligence.

In our daily lives, these three qualities often become imbalanced, and this can affect our moods, our skin and our overall health. 

Tamas can cause us to feel lethargic, depressed, unmotivated and inactive. It can present in our bodies as toxicity. 

Rajas can cause us to feel anxious, angry, restless and hyperactive. It can present in our bodies as inflammation. 

Sattva is the ideal state of balance, both mentally and physically, that we can strive towards. 

We can use essential oils as a natural tool to bring ourselves closer to this balance. We’ve put together some simple daily rituals you can use to address imbalances in your life.


Early Morning...

Lethargy, Puffiness, Lack of Sleep, Sinus Congestion:

Rosemary & Honey Face Mask

  1. Spritz your face with Rose Water.
  2. Place a small squeeze of Natural Honey into the palm of your hand.
  3. Add 2 drops of Rosemary Highland essential oil.
  4. Blend with your fingertips and apply to your damp face.
  5. Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with warm, and then cold water.

Dark Circles Under the Eyes, Swollen Eye Area:

Helichrysum Eye Gel

  1. In a 10 ml Roll-On bottle, place 5 drops Helichrysum essential oil.
  2. Fill the bottle with Aloe Vera Gel and shake well. 
  3. Apply gently and carefully to the under-eye area. 

Anxiety, Stress, Tension:

Calming Morning Face Cream

Simply add 1 or 2 drops of Lavender Highland, Sandalwood or Neroli essential oil to your face cream before applying it. 

You’ll carry the calming (and skin rejuvenating) benefits with you throughout your day. 

Getting Ready...

Depleted Immunity, Low Energy:

Immune & Energy Boosting Massage Oil

  1. Place 2-3 drops Bay Laurel or Black Spruce essential oil into some unscented body lotion/Jojoba Oil/Coconut Oil (whatever you like to put on your body)
  2. Massage this mixture across your low back (adrenal glands)

Respiratory Congestion, Cough:

DIY Decongesting Roll-On

  1. Place 5 drops Eucalyptus Radiata & 5 drops Spike Lavender into a 10 ml Roll-On bottle.
  2. Fill the bottle with Jojoba Oil and shake well.
  3. Apply under the nose and take deep breaths to clear airways and encourage respiratory health. 

Throughout Your Day...

Keep Germs Away, Defend Against Sickness:

DIY Natural Hand Sanitizer

  1. Place 5 drops Spike Lavender, 5 drops Mild Thyme and 5 drops Lemon  into a 60 ml Lotion Bottle.
  2. Fill the bottle with Aloe Vera Gel and shake well.

DIY Natural Surface Spray

  1. Place 25 drops Cold & Flu Blend into a 60 ml Spray Bottle.
  2. Add a small squirt of natural dish soap to the bottle.
  3. Fill the bottle with Distilled Water and shake well.

Cold & Flu Blend or Comfort Blend can also be diffused in your environment to clear the air of germs and keep everyone healthy.

Feel good & freshen up on the go:

Refreshing Spritzer

  1. Carry a Rose Bulgarian Hydrosol in your purse or gym bag.
  2. Spritz your face, neck and underarms throughout the day to balance, disinfect, deodorize and cleanse. 

*For a more effective deodorizing underarm spray, add ~15 drops Geranium Rose to your 100 ml bottle of Rose Bulgarian Hydrosol

Address & balance your state of mind with natural scent:

DIY Body Spritzer

  1. Place a total of 20 drops essential oil into a 100 ml bottle of Rose Bulgarian Hydrosol.
  2. Shake well and spritz onto your neck, wrists and clothing. 

Winding down & going to bed…

Find a calming routine that works for you, incorporating the calming, sedative essential oils:

Sandalwood, Lavender Highland, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, Sleep Well Blend

Aromatherapy Bath

  1. Blend 12-15 drops total essential oil into ~30 ml Natural Honey, Milk or Natural Unscented Soap.
  2. Run a hot bath and pour your mixture into the water right before stepping in. 

Warm Face & Neck Compress

  1. Place 6-7 drops total essential oil into a small bowl of warm water.
  2. Soak a soft washcloth in the bowl.
  3. Set over the forehead (with eyes closed) or across the back of the neck while you relax and take deep breaths.

DIY Pillow Spray

  1. Place 15 drops total essential oil into a 60 ml Spray Bottle.
  2. Add a small squirt of natural, unscented soap (to help oil and water mix).
  3. Fill the bottle with Distilled Water and shake well.
  4. Spray onto bed linens and around your room before going to sleep.

You can also diffuse any combination of these essential oils in your environment when you’re winding down and/or going to sleep.
