When you hold one of our bottles, you’re holding a botanical that may have travelled a very long way to get there.
For more than 30 years, our approach to sourcing has been simple: go where the best botanicals grow.
Plants are deeply connected to place. Soil composition, elevation, rainfall, hours of sunlight, temperature and growing season can all influence how a plant develops — and, ultimately, the aromatic and botanical profile of what is harvested. The same species grown in two different parts of the world can produce remarkably different results.
That’s why we don’t begin our search with what is closest or easiest to source. We begin with the plant itself.
We search globally for regions where the climate and landscape allow a botanical to thrive naturally, and where there is often a long history of cultivating, harvesting and working with that particular plant.
Because exceptional botanicals require more than exceptional soil.
They require knowledge.
Many of the growers and distillers we work with are artisan producers whose understanding of their crops has been developed over generations. They know when a plant has reached its ideal point for harvest, which parts should be gathered, how quickly they need to be processed and how to distill or extract them while preserving the integrity of the botanical.
That human knowledge is every bit as important to us as geography.
Quality begins at the farm
Whenever possible, we seek out certified organic cultivation and production. But our standards extend beyond a certificate.
Around the world, some extraordinary botanicals are grown on small, traditional farms using organic practices that long predate modern certification. Others are cultivated in regions renowned specifically for that plant, where farming methods have evolved alongside it over generations.
We look at the entire picture: how the plant is grown, how the land is cared for, when and how it is harvested, how it is processed, and ultimately the quality of the botanical that reaches us.
Scale is never our priority. Botanical integrity is.
We favour producers who treat plants as agricultural materials worthy of care rather than commodities to be produced as quickly and cheaply as possible. Small harvests, traditional cultivation, careful distillation and thoughtful stewardship can all contribute to the extraordinary character we look for in our ingredients.
From its natural home to ours
Our sourcing map stretches across the world because the world’s botanicals do.
Lavender has landscapes where it flourishes. Roses have climates that produce extraordinary aromatic material. Frankincense belongs to environments entirely different from those that nurture citrus, eucalyptus or tropical flowers.
Trying to source everything from one region would certainly be simpler.
But simplicity has never been our quality standard.
Instead, we follow the plants — searching for the combination of soil, climate, agricultural tradition, skilled growers and careful processing that allows each botanical to be at its best.
We are a Canadian family business, but our botanical pantry is global by design.
Every bottle represents a chain of people and places: farmers, harvesters, distillers and producers whose knowledge protects the character of the plant from the field all the way to us.
