We've been using this recipe for years; it combats coughs, colds & congestion while encouraging a restful night's sleep.
A chest balm is worth the little bit of extra effort because it holds the essential oils on the skin, rather than having them be absorbed by the body. This makes them a) safer and b) more effective at combatting coughs & congestion all night long.<
DIY Chest Balm for Kids
Safely and effectively treat colds, coughs & congestion while encouraging restful sleep.
You can make a slightly stronger version of this recipe and use it on yourself as well ;)
Some ingredient notes:
- We like using beeswax pellets because they're easy to measure, scoop etc.
- We prefer using refined shea butter as it doesn't have an odour
- Always ensure you're working with high quality, third party certified essential oils (this is especially important when making things for your little ones)
Over a double boiler, melt down the beeswax, cocoa butter and shea butter until they are liquid.
Allow your mixture to cool for 1-2 minutes before adding your drops of essential oils.
As quickly as you can (before it begins to harden), transfer your balm mixture into your desired jar.
Set your jar aside, sitting upright, to harden for a few hours or overnight.
Apply to the front and back of chest, put clothing overtop.
